6th ELEGANCE CRUISE
10 / 11 / 12 / 13 April 2009

PRESENTATION

It is our pleasure to present to you the 6th ELEGANCE CRUISE, the gay event for vintage and exceptional car enthusiasts, on the Easter Weekend 2009, 10, 11, 12 and 13 April. This rally will be hosted, like other Ledorga-events, by DOMINIQUE LEHERRE and his team.

In 2009, the 6th edition of the Elegance Cruise will be held in the region of the city of Rouen. Rouen is located some 150 kms/95 miles to the north-west of Paris. For the sake of leisurely driving in classic cars, this event will guide you through two widely divergent regions in the vicinity of Rouen. The first region is situated around de city of Neubourg and is somewhat secluded and bucolic. It nevertheless offers a wide variety of interesting but relatively unknown features, which are worth visiting. The second region is a forested nature reserve, located around the meandering river Seine to the west of Rouen and continuing all the way to Le Havre. This region is quite well preserved and offers some impressive panoramas in the curved of the Seine. Both regions have profited from the river commercially since many boats sail up the Seine towards Paris and both regions are spiritually well developed by a vast number of religious settlements and renowned abbeys. This 6th Elegance Cruise is the outstanding opportunity to discover this particular area of France. Please note also that the city of Rouen is conveniently located near both the A16/E402 + A28/E402 (Calais- Rouen) and the A13 (Paris - Caen) motorways.

This long weekend will be filled with leisure; grand scenic tours through the local landscape and devoid of questionnaires, games and other tiresome brain twisters. Instead, this event features the traditional concours d'elegance. All participants are invited to give a presentation of their vehicles, in costume dress e.g. in disguise or in period dress, matching the car. No need for extraordinary extravagance, we'll not be cruising on the Croisette in Cannes, just avoid ordinary day-to-day clothing. In order to spice things up a bit, a small sketch, scenario or stage setting of some form, including you and your vehicle is greatly appreciated. Every participating team is seriously requested to participate in this concours d'elegance so as to add to the general joy, boast team spirit and give the event a gay and merry note!

The new time-table of 3 nights and 2 entire rally days has been maintained. Thus, you dispose of the complete Friday to travel towards the hotel and less/no stress on Monday morning to stay within your timetable or to catch the right ferry. Once you've had breakfast, you're free to go at any time you please.

For you comfort and better comprehension, all information will be given in four languages, e.g. French, English, Dutch and German. Please note that, similar to previous events, participation is reserved to classic, collectors-, vintage vehicles (e.g. over 25 years old) or exceptional vehicles (e.g. rarities or curiosities, built in small numbers).

I count on all of you to come and make this event a big hit, see you on Friday 10 April 2009!

Please note: after reception of your participation bulletin (and -for France your cheque) you will receive confirmation of your participation by e-mail or by phone individually.

PROGRAM

This event starts on Friday 10 April 2009 directly at the Novotel Rouen / parc des expositions. The reception of the participants, hotel check-in and delivery of the welcome bag will be organised between 17:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. An earlier check-in at the hotel is possible since the hotel rooms have been reserved in the name of each participant, thus anyone eager to visit and discover the historic town centre of Rouen has the possibility to arrive earlier in the afternoon. After the official reception, dinner will be served at the hotel and afterwards the hotel bar is at your disposal for the customary after dinner dram. Those fagged out by the journey, will find their beds within a stone's throw...

On Saturday 11 April, the first drive starts form the hotel in the direction of Harcourt. The village of Harcourt is dominated by Harcourt estate and surrounded by 95 hectares of forest. A free tour (an explanatory leaflet is different languages is available) of the estate in two stages is scheduled, starting with the park and its exceptional arboretum. The arboretum has been laid out in 1826 by the Agricultural College of France and is considered the oldest of its kind in France. It contains over 470 species on 11 hectares and introduced several exotic and unheard varieties in France. The second part of the visit consists of the listed medieval castle. The castle was built between the XIIth and XIVth century and considerably altered in the XVIIth century, but its ring wall and double moat have remained. Inside the castle you'll have the opportunity to discover the castle's complete history as well as the Harcourt's family history. Next, we drive on towards Bec-Hellouin where a luncheon will be served in the abbey inn. After lunch, there is time to wander around the grounds and the abbey of Notre-Dame-du-Bec. The abbey was founded in 1034 and is characterised by some majestic buildings like Saint-Nicolas tower. In 1948, the Benedictine monks resumed monastic life within the abbey. In their shop you'll find typical earthenware and products from different monasteries throughout France.

The following drive will direct you towards Beaumesnil Castle. Built between 1633 and 1640, the castle is a rare and exceptional example of baroque Louis XIII architecture and sitting in a park of some 60 hectares. It includes a French garden designed by Quintinie (Le Notre's assistant), two vista's, reflecting basins and a phenomenal maze of box trees built upon the ruins of the medieval keep. Noteworthy on the inside are madam's private apartments, the truly grand library, the collection of old masters and the Louis XV style wainscotting. The castle also holds a nice exhibition on the history of bookbinding and gilding. The final drive of today will guide you back to the hotel. The hotel bar will be open for after dinner drinks and twaddle.

On Sunday 12 April, the scenic morning drive will guide you along the river Seine towards Jumieges abbey, an exceptional early example of a large construction of Roman architecture embedded in its own haven of verdure: austere and impressive. The facade is flanked by two 46 meter high towers. Unfortunately, the post-revolution destructive mania eliminated the cloister and its annexes, but the outlines are still clearly visible. Part two of the morning drive continues along the winding Seine River, through the natural park on its riverbanks, towards Saint-Wandrille-de-Rancon and past the abbey of Saint-Wandrille. The morning drive ends at the road house of the three Vikings situated at the foot of the imposing Brotone Bridge.

The afternoon drive starts towards Vernier marsh. A stopover is planned at Roque's head at the lighthouse that used to mark the entrance of the river Seine. The area offers an impressive panorama on the surrounding countryside and Normandy Bridge as well as Tancarville Bridge. The drive continues and will guide you back to the hotel, making some time for your preparations for the Concours d'Elegance. Towards the end of the afternoon, every participant will be invited to present the cars in fancy dress and do their little sketch. Please do not change afterwards; everyone will be invited to have dinner in the hotel with their special costumes and bring a bit of carnival atmosphere and amusement to the dinner table. The hotel bar will of course stay open until midnight.

On Monday 13 April, no schedule: you are free to get up whenever you please, unless you need breakfast, in that case it might be advisable to get up before 10h30. No restrictions for the early risers. Hotel rooms are at your disposal until noon. Everybody is free to leave whenever they want to.
